IN
APRIL we established IVANOV + CHAN - our new studio on PAPA
WESTRAY, also known as PAPAY, the island - 4 miles long and
1 mile wide - far away from London washed by waves of Atlantic
on one side and northern sea on other. Two seas are meeting
at the north tip of the island - THE BORE - the boiling soup
of seas. The island has 6000 years of continuous history and
the wide open view. Sometime it feels like being on the Moon.
Time has transformed strangely here. Work is undisrupted and
calm and unrestrained.
New paintings are developing from the air of the island -
its textures and weather changes - from long days of summer
into the darkness of winter.
I'm
writing rather than painting here: endless novels and poems
of big oil paintings; short stories of water based mediums.
Weather, landscape, memories, books, dance are over layered
in it creating a visual philosophy of the landscape, the place.
Not giving answers and not even creating questions –
rather territories of contemplation.
